5 Hot Home Design Trends for 2015

April 12th, 2015

Feeling like your home interior could use a major updating this year? Take everything you’ve heard about matching furniture and solid paint wall colors and throw it out the window. According to design experts at Zillow Digs, these two trends are “soon-to-be forgotten” interior decorating fads. Like many fads, they come and go in a matter of a year. Because no one wants their house to look completely untrendy, we have pulled five of the hottest home design trends for 2015.

Kerrie Kelly, a Zillow Digs design expert said in Business Insider, “Unexpected textures and an eclectic, modern vibe are about to find their way in 2015. Expect to see a more sophisticated look in 2015 that incorporates gold hardware, natural textures, and subtle mid-century modern undertone.”

So what exactly are these “sophisticated” trends of 2015? Let’s take a look.

1. Gold Fixtures (via Business Insider)

Be bold and go gold. You no longer have to be weighed down by the two fixture choices: silver or stainless steel. This year, homeowners will feel free to mix and match finish colors, or go bold with all gold or copper. It’s the year 2015 and that means you can bling out your house just the way you’ve always dreamed it would be.

Gold is everywhere! From lamps to mirrors, brass beds and gold-leaf chests.

2. Cowhide (via Business Insider)

You want your guests to feel an air of sophistication as they walk into your living room, how about a cowhide sitting elegantly casual as the centerpiece? Your condo or house won’t be complete without one.

Zillow Digs Designers say elements of cowhide will fight their pay into pillows, rugs, throw blankets, and even artwork this year.

3. Wallpaper (via Business Insider)

For a while now, we have been told to paint our walls solid colors. Say it isn’t so, but wallpaper is coming back in a big way, says Zillow Digs design experts. Consumers should expect to see an increase in available colors and textures in home stores because everyone’s dying to spice up their wall game.

4. Blue Accent Colors (via Business Insider)

Pops of indigo blue or deep navy will become a staple in home design this year. This bold shade adds an elegant and bright flair to your workspace.

5. Modern/Mid-century Modern elements (via Business Insider)

Lastly, the modern design elements of the 1950s through the 1970s will make their way back to the living room. So that old 1970s family-style sitcom couch you threw at your son or daughter when they were heading off to college is officially trendy today.

Zillow Digs experts advise homeowners to be careful when integrating this trend into homes, as the trend is not meant to take over the theme of the house.

It’s time to bring sophistication into your home through fun wallpaper designs and gold fixtures to keep up with the on-trend design staples this year.

Happy decorating!
